Because IBS is neither entirely physical, nor entirely psychological, it’s a complicated condition for many people – including medical professionals – to understand. But if you’re suffering from it, your condition can be brought under control, and you are not alone. Most of us have experienced IBS to some degree. Think about an experience that made you nervous or anxious, for example – your stomach likely gave you some problems. For a person with IBS, this isn’t just a sometime state, it’s a constant one. Although it’s a chronic condition, IBS isn’t the same as irritable bowel disease or Crohn’s disease, which usually have more severe physical symptoms, and which, most notably, are diseases that have a purely physical basis.
